Eucalyptus verrucataEucalyptus verrucata herbarium specimen

This herbarium specimen of Grampians Gum (Eucalyptus verrucata) containing pressed leaves, buds, flowers and fruit, was collected on 30 October 1979 by Julie Marginson for her PhD research.  Marginson discovered that this variant is a separate species from Eucalyptus alpina, with which it was previously ascribed.  Subsequently this specimen was reclassified as a new species, Eucalyptus verrucata

This specimen has been designated as an isotype.  It is a scientifically invaluable specimen that is the benchmark from which all identifications and botanical descriptions of Eucalyptus verrucata are based.

Eucalyptus verrucata is rare in the Australian bush.  The Grampians National Park, in eastern Victoria, is the only place it grows in the wild.
